30 Weeks Old

Kami is becoming more and more adventurous each day. She is now pulling up on whatever she can get a hold of and stands there for a few moments quite proud of herself. She's also picking up new tricks, like the one that Grandma taught her last week while she was here in Denver: the fake cough. Any time she wants attention from someone, she coughs in their general direction until they look at her. She then returns the attention with a smile and look of satisfaction. What a dork.

She also still loves pretzels that she acquired a taste for at the Coors Brewery. We finally found a bag of similar pretzels. They're not as thick as the brewery ones, but she seems to still like them. We scratch off all the salt first so she's not the only 7-month old with high levels of sodium and hand them over. She gums them until they're too slimy to hold onto, and then she drops them to the ground. If that doesn't happen, Kami just slaps her highchair tray with her pretzel-hand until the pretzel breaks up into numerous pieces.

Garrett just got done with another class at Iliff that he really enjoyed and work's going well for me. We're all looking forward to being back in Boise in two more weeks, so hopefully we'll see some of you that visit the blog!

By the way, where are all the comments? I would threaten to stop posting, but the grandparents might not be okay with that...

Garrett has an extra XBox controller, so he lets Kami play with it.

She's quite intrigued by it. She looks for it every time she's downstairs on the floor.

Kami was crawling on the ottoman and making her way towards the end, so Garrett grabbed her just before she toppled off.

She started having fun with it and reaching for her toys.

Here's Kami after she's pulled up on the sofa. We can't leave anything on the sofa with Judah around because Judah can stand up and reach anything on the couch, but now, Kami can too, so watch out!

Like I said, she can climb up on anything, even a baby gate. Here's the rear view...

and here's the front view. She got a little upset because she got stuck and couldn't stand up all the way and I wasn't helping her. Sorry!

Kami loves her some pretzels!

She's contemplating her next move...

which is to shove it in her mouth.

She's now succeeded in breaking it into a few pieces...

but it's not as good anymore, so she's done with it!

What a mess maker!

Yeah, we caught you! She's showing you her frog.

Kami's got her eyes on the prize!

And she's got it!

Her hair's a little out of control. I'm trying to train it into a side part, but her cowlick is proving to be a formidable foe, so for now, she's got the comb-forward and sweep-sideways look going on. Obviously, the sideways sweep wasn't happening in this shot. Her hair is really growing in though! I'm glad she's not bald!

29 Weeks Old

This week, Kami kept working on crawling. She's pretty much perfected the "scootch," but hasn't quite gotten the arm/knee coordination that it takes to crawl. She's happier now that she's mobile-she doesn't get as frustrated when Judah leaves or there's something that she wants that's out of reach-she can follow or get it! How exciting! It's so much fun to chase after her when she gets somewhere she's not supposed to be or goes after something she can't have and lots of fun to pick her up after she rolls off the bed (it's only happened twice-no need to call social services) :)!

The Dokken grandparents were in town mid-week, which was a lot of fun for all of us. It was close to 100 degrees every day they were here, which wasn't so fun, but we got to go see the capitol building, we drove by the Denver Mint, went out to Golden, CO and got a tour of the Coors Brewery (it was much more interesting than I thought it would be!), and got some good quality hang-out time with my parents. It was nice seeing them and we're looking forward to seeing more people next month (especially Kami's Uncle Nick and Aunt Patso)!

Kami and Judah both had a little bug this week, so one day Judah wasn't feeling great, and the next day, Kami was sick, so that's been a lot of fun for the adults. Kami's teeth are getting close to cutting through (how many times have I said that now?) and we think those have been bothering her too. She's still growing like a weed (too fast! Stop!) and smiles at everything! Everyone should have a baby! It's so much fun! :)

Here we are with the grandparents in the dome of the capitol building. It was hot and there were a lot of stairs to get up to the top, but it was a great view!

Here's the outside of the capitol building. A stranger was nice enough to get a picture of all of us so my dad didn't have to use the self-timer mode. It looks like my dad is just some guy that happened to be in the frame, but he's not!

This is at the Coors Brewery after the tour. It was about 40 minutes long, so before lunch, we had a seat and rested for a bit.

Kami discovered her new favorite food: pretzels! They're perfect for her because they just kind of dissolve in her mouth and she can hold on really well to the big ones! She gummed two until they were so slimy, she couldn't hold onto them anymore and dropped them.

Dad got to wear Kami during the tour, but he's got a sunburn, so mom ended up with her later.

All of the above pictures were taken with my parents' camera and for some reason, they turned out smaller on my laptop, thus the difference on the blog. Weird.

Kami likes to crawl places she's not supposed to go, so she started crawling towards the table that holds the television and has a lot of cords underneath. Not exactly baby-friendly.

She had to make it through the maze of curtains first...

but it got confusing when the curtains got in her face. How rude!

Then she realized that she couldn't figure out how to get out and was stuck...

and got pretty upset and called for back-up!

She likes to play with dad!

And his nose!

And a fishook to spare!

Kami and Judah like to play on Judah's laptop together.

She likes to lounge on the couch with a juicy read like her grandparents.

And just like her Grandpa Dokken, she usually ends up falling asleep in the middle of the book.

Uncle Nick and Aunt Patso got Kami a moose and bear from Alaska on their honeymoon. The first thing she did with them when her grandparents brought them from Boise was shove them in her mouth. That means she likes them! She really likes them!

Her she is working on her crawling still. So close!

Again with the laptop.

She scootched her way over to Judah's bin of toys. Pretty sneaky Kami!

She looked back over her shoulder like she was doing something wrong. Maybe she was...

then she started biting on the bin like everything else...

and let go and got mad. She can get pretty mad about things. It's kind of funny but I don't think it's supposed to be. Oh well.

Here's another close-up and check-up on her eyes. Yup-still blue.

Her hair's pretty cute, huh?

She thinks so too!

Grandpa made Kami laugh and he managed to get a pretty cute shot of her!

She thinks a lot of things are funny!

28 Weeks Old

Kami is ridiculously close to crawling and even though she's not crawling yet, she manages to make it from one side of the room to the other side with her little scootch thing she does. She inches across the room or towards whatever she wants to get, which lately, is mom's laptop. She seems to be doing well on the soy formula we've switched her to and she's getting much better at eating her solid foods with less ending up on her face. She's also turned into a pacifier girl lately, which is odd because she never really had any interest in one when she was a newborn. She'll take one when she sleeps and when she's fussy.

The weather here has been pretty nice. A storm seems to roll in every afternoon around 4, so it's stayed cool, unlike Boise! Work is still going well for me, but I'm getting worn out after working 50 hours a week every week. I start to miss my family! Garrett is gearing up to head back to school for a week long class in two weeks.

We're getting ready to have my parents here for a few days this next week, so we're all excited about that! I'm sure there will be lots of pictures with her grandpa holding here coming soon!

Profile view of the pacifier girl.

She can even manages to keep the pacifier in while she's smiling!

She likes to play with the pacifiers when she has them in her mouth...

but she keeps them in there somehow!

Mom and Kami were worn out after watching some quality television.

She fell asleep last night after eating her bottle with dad.

She kept holding on to the bottle even when she was asleep!

Kami is starting to reach for people/things that she wants.

She's testing the waters to see if I'm what she wants...

and decides she'll come see me. It's so much fun to be wanted by your baby!

She likes to ham it up for the camera!

She likes to play with Judah's phone. Am I getting her hooked on phones too soon? I hope she doesn't figure out those any time in the near future.

I got her some barrettes at the store the other day and here's what I did with them!

They seem to keep her longer hair out of her eyes.

Plus it's really cute! She's an Asian Pebbles Flinstone!

See what I mean? But Asian...use your imagination!

I think she likes it!

She's such a smiley baby.

So close to crawling...

and pretty proud of herself!

The Hufstedlers and Prices were having dinner one night and I had some of my crescent roll leftover, so I thought I'd see if Kami was interested.

She gnawed on it for a while...

and made a huge, crummy mess after a while. I'm not sure if she got any in her mouth, but she had some fun with it!

Now that some of her bibs are older, the velcro doesn't stick as well, so Kami's figured out how to pull them off while eating.

Very convenient when I'm trying to clean her up!

Kami stays entertained while mom and dad eat dinner by eating her book. She likes to "read" it too and throw it off the tray to see how many times mom picks it up for her.
Kami hates when I wipe her face off with baby wipes. She makes some horrible faces and tries to turn away when I come at her.

She's much happier after I'm done cleaning her up.
